Can this really be happening? The first ever solar powered airplane is here. The airplane is called Solar Impulse1. That’s right folks it is officially here.
They have already tested it but it wasn’t as decent as they wanted it. The plane ran out of fuel and didn’t make it through its expected journey. So now engineers have made some technical changes and created a new version called Solar Impulse 2. Officials are planning on making its first depart in late February or early March.
All the officials have planned to the route involving the following pit-stops: Mandalay, Myanmar; Chongqing, China; Nanjing, China; Ahmedabad, India; Varanasi, India; Phoenix, Arizona; Hawaii, USA; and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The first menSolar Impuleto pilot the Solar Impulse 2 are Swiss pilots, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg.
The solar powered airplane will be going at speeds between 50 and 100 kilometers per hour (31-62 mph). Piccard and Borschberg plan to circle the globe flying twenty- five days over the course of five months. We wish the men a successful journey and have a safe flight!
